My 2014 x5 with 114,000 mile , has a squealing sound before it shuts off (Auto shut off mode). I took it in to Bmw service center and was told I need a new valve cover and the total cost for parts and labor is $1600. I told them when I don't use the auto shut off mode the car runs fine and when I manually shut it off I don't hear the noise. I was told it get worst and could cause a faulty signal and check engine light run poorly ect. what I wanna know is, was I told the truth by the service department or would I need to replace the valve cover as suggested? If I don't repair the issue will it cause me more headaches in the long run ? any help will be greatly appreciated...

Bham5494,

I am not convinced that this could be valve cover as you mentioned that when shutting the car manually reveals no issues, never trust any dealer, for a suggestion I need to know if this engine is gasoline or diesel? Thanks.
