What would you do if someone had your car for almosta a year??

I was getting a motor built, and some additional work. The engine builder has a good rep. The job was supposed to take 2 weeks. Month after month went by. every month there was a different reason why the car wasn't ready. I've deposited half and owe half when the car gets picked up.

could there be damage by the car sitting for a year? It has chrome wheels new tires, good paint. What would you do legally, and do I have to pay the rest?

I think there would be minimal damage, probably some separation of teh gas in the gas tank. Fill it up, run it almost empty, and change the fuel filter.

If they complete the job, you certainly have to pay for it. If they started the work but didn't finish, and you want to take it, it will get ugly.

Seems to me that a service contract that states 2 weeks should mean 2 weeks. I would watch out and see that the shop doesn't charge you for storage of your vehicle for that long. Good luck

Have you told him you need the car? I'd tell him you have to have the car back, give him a time frame and if he's not done with it your going to pick it up. Let him know that he's going to have to refund part of your money so someone else can do the work. Be very specific. I would definitely have a consult with a lawyer. He can advise you on what to do legally. A lot of times credit unions give you a free call to a lawyer (10 min or something like that). That way you'll know exactly what you can do to get your money back and you can let him know your intentions if he doesn't complete the job in the time frame given.

Either that or they really dont knwo what they are doing... Probably hit a hitch they cant figure out and are making excuses. They probably arent even working on it anymore... it doesnt take 11 months to troubleshoot a problem. Hopefully its not anything worse than that :(
