Tire help

I want to buy (and almost have to) new tires for my 88 325is -- and obviously I do not want winter tires!!

The problem is, my OEM tire size -- 195/65/14 is impossible to find in anything BUT an all season or winter!!

My question is, what can I do?? I've heard from a few people that I can go with a 205/60/14, but I've never read it from a credible source.

I have the 14" basketweaves. I wish I could find some high or ultra-high performance summers.

hey epj,

i have the same rims. I actually ended up getting the 205/60/14's. I have all four tires that size right now... So it does work. I called tirerack and they said I could do it so i did. They are great. A definite improvement and the speedometer still reads correctly. Well i think it's something like 1 mile per hour off.

Anyway I bought BF Goodrich T/A H and they have really stiff sidewalls. They are a bit heavier than my last tires but i love them... In combination with my car being lowered they stick to the road real well. I think they are 55 a piece but they are all season tires and you said you didn't want all season... but they stick just as well as my roomates low profile summer tires on his lowered jetta in my opinion... Anyway just trying to give ideas, others may say differently.

Good luck on the search. The over sized tire you meantion will work.

You're just jealious because your car doesn't give you the kind of road feedback that mine does.

Plus mine sounds better [driving2] [headbang] [:p]

Hey Eric,

I put Bridgestone Turanza's on my 525i two months ago and so far I love them. I'm just across the river in York, and they've handled great in all that rain we've been having. They're considered "touring" tires but I've pushed them hard a few times and they grab and hold on. Now to see if they do OK in the white stuff. Otherwise it will be time for Blizzards.

I picked up some Nitto 460's (205 60HR14) on the recommendaton of Discount tire. I put a few highway trips on them to break them in, then I took them to a driving school and they worked great. Pretty inexpensive too.

I looked through the thread and I am the only one that recommended Discount tire, and I really did not recommend them, I offered their site to use their tire size calaulator. I do however like Discount Tire, they have more store locations and if you have the tires shipped to your door shipping is free. Oh and I do get a discount at the Tire Rack. Ease up!
