Go Compaq!  I have the X1000, uses Microsoft Centrino technology.  60gb 5400 rpm drive, 512 ram, ATI 64 MB Video card, and a 15.4" wide screen UXGA display.  That screen is the best I have ever seen on a laptop, also the highest resolution, you can view two word documents side by side.  Gotta love that screen.  All together cost me 2 grand.  We also own a older Compaq persario notebook (my sisters) and we just purchased a cheep Toshiba laptop for when one of the others are in the shop or if we just need another computer, only cost $500.  Currently my compaq x1000 is the fastest computer in the family (1.5 ghz M, performs at about a 2.6 ghz P4).  I am currently building a custom Desktop for my dad, 3 ghz Pentum 4 HT, Dual 200 GB hard drives, DVD burner, the works, this will take the top slot once finished.  We also own several old Desktops though we never use them, I believe they operate at 800mhz, 600mhz, 300mhz, and then ancient ones.
