Worn clearcoat, need help fixing?

This is the only bad paint spot on my car (other than a few rock chips on the hood which also only went through clearcoat.)

Any advice as to how to fix this, or if I should just polish around it? I have Poorboys SR2 scratch and swirl remover, and poorboys polish.

It depends. And that is probably why no one gave you an answer. If you wanted a fully restored factory paint look, you would have to go to a paint shop.

If you can be satisfied with a good job that you can do yourself, you can get some clearcoat (hard to get in spray cans) sand with extra fine wet/dry sandpaper, then mask off the outer areas, and do a small area blend-in of the clear. You might be able to find a polyurethane clear paint in a spray can. If you can not do a good "feathering" of the old clear coat, then you might have to spray a couple of light coats, sand with extra fine wet/dry sandpaper, then clear finish again. Hope this helps. Yea thats a pretty good answer. I think that's what I might go with, but I'll wait til later this summer as long as it doesn't continue to chip. I might take it for an estimate.

Eric that is pretty good advice, I did take some scratches out of a car using 2000 grit sand paper and rubbing compound. I suggest a fine sanding of the area and edges with 2000 grit, spray or brush on clear coat sanding between coats until you get the thickness right. Finish with a 2000 grit sand and rubbing compound. Best of luck.

What about over spray? This might sound a little silly, but if you are going to a body shop anyway, you can touch it up with clear coat fingernail polish. The other replies are great but if you are not careful it could cause a haze. This is a temporary solution. Best of luck. [:p]

Plus overspray can be taken off with claybar or polish.

I'm prob an hour and a half away from being done detailing my car today...but what i'm doing...

-P21s wash
-P21s wheel gel (kicks ass!)
-Groits clay bar
-Poorboys SSR2 Swirl remover (i suck with this stuff! I think it's too hot out so it dries up fast)
-Poorboys polish
-Natty's paste wax blue
-Turtle Wax ICE (for trim and mouldings)
